Let’s begin.
Wikipedia’s definition of cancel culture is this: “Cancel culture is a phenomenon in which those who are deemed to have acted or spoken in an unacceptable manner are ostracized, boycotted or shunned,” (Source).
Ostracized, boycotted or shunned.
Like when we all found out that Johnny Depp beat his wife, Amber Heard, right?
Except that’s not what really happened.
“The defamation case [in 2022] brought by actor Johnny Depp against his ex-wife Amber Heard came to an end after a seven-person jury unanimously ruled in favor of Depp,” (Source).
We were so quick to ‘cancel’ Depp. And then we were wrong.
