In May of 2022, I read the first book in the All Souls trilogy: A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. You can read the book review here: A Discovery of Witches: Book Review.

In February 2024, I finally read the second and third book of the series. I gave each book 4 stars respectively, and will explain why I chose this rating below. Note that this review will contain spoilers.

Devoured This Series

The worldbuilding and dynamics between creatures and humans still brings me a lot of joy. Especially so in the third book where creatures of all kinds gather at Sept-Tours and we, as readers, learn that they can live amongst each other (mostly) without incident.

I liked that the second book had Diana and Matthew traveling back in time. As a reader, I was able to meet characters that could only be mentioned in the first book, learn the history of magic and see the true power of witches, and watch the characters grow in a unique way that could only occur outside the modern world.

Something To Be Desired

The only part of these novels that had me looking for more were the progressions of the traumatic experiences. I know how this sounds, let me explain.
